Leonard “Larry” Elmore, Illustrator, Artist, and more

Larry Elmore, Fantasy artist, Illustrator, and L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future JudgeOur next guest today is the renowned artist Leonard Elmore, though he prefers to go by that Larry Elmore. Today, he will delve into his illustrious career as one of our nation’s most celebrated illustrators. Larry’s journey as a fantasy and science fiction artist spans over four decades. After earning a BFA degree from Western Kentucky, he tied the knot with Betty Clemons and was drafted into the Army around the same time.

In the 1970s, he embarked on his freelancing odyssey, gracing the pages of prestigious publications such as “Heavy Metal” and “National Lampoon.” A pivotal moment occurred when TSR Inc., the company responsible for the iconic role-playing game “Dungeons & Dragons,” reached out to Larry. He contributed his artistic talents to TSR from 1981 to 1987, leaving an indelible mark on the gaming art standards within the role-playing genre.

Larry’s Portfolio

Larry’s portfolio is brimming with achievements, including crafting cover art for publications like “Dungeons & Dragons,” “AD&D,” “Star Frontiers,” and a host of other gaming books. Yet, his magnum opus might very well be his work in the fantastical realm of “Dragonlance.” Since 1987, he’s continued his artistic journey as a freelance illustrator, adorning the covers of comics, computer games, magazines, and an array of fantasy and science fiction books. The sheer volume of his projects defies listing.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Recent years have seen Larry channel his creative energies into crafting exquisite paintings for collectors and enthusiasts spanning the globe. Additionally, since 2012, he’s played a pivotal role as a judge in the Illustrators of the Future competition. His monumental contributions to the arts culminated in the presentation of the L. Coalition for Family Harmony

Dr. Caroline Prijatel-Sutton, Psy.D, Executive Director of Coalition for Family HarmonyOur third guest is Dr. Caroline Prijatel-Sutton, Psy.D, the Executive Director of Coalition for Family Harmony. Dr. Prijatel-Sutton will be shedding light on the Coalition for Family Harmony’s mission and the critical need for continuous funding. The Coalition has been steadfastly supporting victims of family violence for over four decades, offering various services aimed at helping them break free from abusive situations. Their unwavering commitment is geared towards assisting victims and eradicating violence from within the confines of a home. Remarkably, in the previous year, the Coalition provided support to over 5,000 individuals in need. Ventura County, where the Coalition operates, grapples with a domestic violence rate three times higher than the state average. Notably, the Coalition for Family Harmony stands as the sole rape center in Ventura County, showcasing the pivotal role they play in this community.

Continuous Commitment to Helping Victims of Family Violence

Emphasizing the necessity of ongoing care, Dr. Prijatel-Sutton will underscore how a continuous commitment to helping victims is essential for a lasting transition to an abuse-free existence. Domestic violence is an issue that won’t simply vanish on its own; it will persist and worsen unless proper prevention strategies and services are in place. Funding for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) is paramount in providing victims of family violence with the resources required to escape their life of abuse. It’s worth noting that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, making this a timely discussion on our show. For more information visit, The Coalition.
